Welcome to the EM Forster Theatre and Studio providing live performance in the heart of Tonbridge. Find out how to get here and make the most of your experience.

How to find us

Parking

Parking for the theatre is at the Tonbridge School Centre, London Road, Tonbridge, TN10 3AD.  This is free and is an 10 minute walk to the theatre. Please see the Theatre area map below.

Train

The theatre is a 15-minute walk from Tonbridge train station and the pedestrian access is marked on the map below.

Pedestrian Access

Access via the main school entrance, walk through the archway and follow the signs.  Please see the access points on the maps below.

Booking Online

Visit our What’s On page and follow the simple instructions on screen. Confirmation of your booking will be emailed to you.

Tickets can be downloaded to you phone or printed at home (click on the link on your email to download).  Tickets can also be collected from the Box office which is open 45 minutes prior to the show, alternatively for £1 they can be posted.

Online Booking is available until 5 minutes before the performance.

Booking in Person

The Box office is not currently open for in person bookings. Please phone 01732 304241, Monday to Friday 9.30am – 2.30pm (term time only, lunch 12.30 – 1.15pm).

In Person bookings are available on the day of the show 45 minutes before the start.

Please have your credit/debit card ready when calling. We accept Mastercard/Visa/Solo/Maestro. We regret we are unable to accept payment via American Express. On receipt of your tickets, please check the details are correct. All pre-paid tickets must be collected from the ticket office at least fifteen minutes before the start of the performance.

Booking Fee

Booking fee of £1 is included in the ticket price.

Refunds and Exchanges

Tickets cannot be exchanged or refunded.

Latecomers

Latecomers may not be admitted until a suitable break in the performance.

Monday – Friday 9.30 am – 2.30 pm (Term Time Only) with lunch at 12.30 – 1.15pm  (or 1 hour before the show start time)

EM Forster Theatre Gift Vouchers are available for purchase online, in person from the Ticket Office, or over the phone (01732 304241).

Concessions & Ticket Prices

Reduced price tickets may be available on some performances and only where stated. Age restrictions may apply.

Free tickets for Carers are offered on some performances, please contact the Box Office for details.

Where a group rate is available online booking will automatically apply the discount or please contact the Box Office to arrange your tickets.

Babes in arms – Babies 24 months and under may be admitted free of charge. Children older than 24 months will require a ticket and seat. Booster seats are available at the theatre. If your baby becomes distressed we expect patrons to leave the auditorium.

Once any ticket is purchased at full price no discounts or concessions will be made retrospectively.

Reservations

We do not take reservations.

Groups – Schools/Community Clubs

If you are looking to bring more than 10 people to a show or film, please contact our Box Office on 01732 304241.  Some, but not all shows have a group discount. This will be clearly advertised on our website or on the show flyer, but you are welcome to check with the Box Office when you make your booking.

Booking

Please contact the Box Office either by email or phone. The Box office staff will ensure that the best seating available will be booked for the individual’s needs and parking can be discussed if required. Personal Assistant/Carer tickets require booking at the Box Office.

Parking

Blue Badge Parking is accessed using the entrance at the London Road/High Street traffic lights. (Please see the Theatre Access Map) . There are three Blue Badge signposted spaces available on a first come first served basis and room to drop off.  You can access the theatre using the short pathway.  This is all on the same level with no steps.

Additional Access Needs parking is available on the school Quad car park (TN10 3AB)  via the Avenue Entrance on London Road.  The flat route from this car park can be found from the driveway in front of the Chapel, following the path around the Chapel and up the slope.

Auditorium

The floor in the stalls of the auditorium is carpeted and there are no steps to Row H. We can accommodate wheelchairs at each end of row H. These must be booked through the Box Office 01732 304241.

There is a lift up to the Circle and Circle foyer but there are steps in the auditorium to all rows but row A.

EM Forster Studio

This black box studio is to the right of the Box Office and has no steps. If it is laid out with tiered seating we can accommodate wheelchairs on the first row on the ground.

Toilets

There is an adapted toilet on the entrance level to the theatre which also has baby changing facilities. A further disabled toilet is on the first floor (Circle).

Hearing Aid Loop 

Our hearing aid loop system in the main auditorium for the hard of hearing is available and works best in the stalls, row D to K.

The hearing loop does not work in the Circle or in row C and row L  of the stalls.

Donations

We are proud to support a local charity each year, and offer our customers the opportunity to add a donation to their ticket purchase.

FAQs

How can I book tickets and what are the costs?

You can book tickets online 24/7, and over the telephone during Box Office opening hours. No additional booking fees are added. Each ticket has the booking fee of £1 included in the cost displayed.

How do I find performance information, dates, times and costs for a show?

On the ‘What’s On’ page you will see all performance listed, select your performance and for all the information click ‘see more’

How do I select a concession ticket when booking online?

After choosing your seats and confirming your selection your chosen seats will be displayed, select the down arrow to choose the relevant ticket type and add to the cart.

Do I need to book a ticket for my baby?

Tickets are required for children 24 months plus. Under 24 months do not require a ticket.  Please note that buggies and prams are not permitted in the auditorium but can be safely stored in the theatre foyer.

Can children attend unaccompanied?

All children under the age of 12 years need to be accompanied by an adult.

Can tickets be reserved to be paid for on arrival?

Tickets need to be paid for in advance. However, the Box Office may be able to reserve tickets for you for a short period if, for example, you are arranging a group booking.

Can I return my ticket?

We are unable to give a refund unless a performance is cancelled. Should a performance be sold out and you are unable to attend then we will be happy to attempt to resell your ticket.

I’ve made an order and selected the Print at home delivery method. How do I find/print my ticket?

Shortly after placing your order you will receive an email notification, this will have your E-tickets displayed. You can download to your apple or google wallet. If you wish to print select ‘Download your tickets’  Click on the link and a pdf file will be displayed to print your tickets.

Why is my e-ticket not appearing/printing correctly?

To view and print your tickets you need to have the most up-to-date version of Adobe Reader. This can be downloaded for free from Adobe’s website. Please either download your ticket to your phone to view or bring a printed version of your e-ticket to the performance. Contact the Box Office on (01732 304241) if you have further difficulties.

What happens if I leave my tickets at home?

If you provide booking details, the Box Office will be able to locate your tickets for you and re-print.

What happens if I am late for a performance?

In most cases, we can admit latecomers, although we may ask you to wait until a suitable break in the performance. Please be aware that if you cannot be admitted due to lateness, we are unable to give any refunds, exchanges or credit vouchers.

How do I purchase gift vouchers?

Gift vouchers can be purchased online or via the Box Office on 01732 304241.

I have a gift voucher or credit note. How can I redeem this?

If you have a voucher or credit note you can redeem this over the telephone and online using the unique code on the voucher. Online you are only able to use your voucher or credit note if it either equals or exceeds the amount of your purchase. We hope to arrange with our ticketing system provider for you to be able to use these for part- payment online in the future.

Do you accept national and other theatre tokens?

We do not accept national and other theatre tokens. There are significant costs associated with these schemes and we are not able to participate at present.

How do I purchase wheelchair seats?

To purchase wheelchair tickets, you are required to contact the Box Office on 01732 304241. Our auditorium can accommodate two wheelchairs.

Do you make Personal Assistant (Carer) tickets available?

If you contact the Box Office on  01732 304241, we will be happy to arrange Personal Assistant tickets.

I do not need a wheelchair, but I have mobility issues. How accessible is the auditorium?

Our auditorium is raked from Row B. If you have mobility issues, we would suggest that you book Row H which is the same level as the foyer or row A of the circle, there is a lift to access the circle and disabled toilets on both floors.

Do you have a Hearing Loop?

Yes, we have an infra-red hearing system – please make yourself known to the Front of House team who will be able to assist you. Please note the hearing loop works best in the Stalls row D-K. It does not work in the Circle or in row B & C or L & M in the stalls.

Do you allow Guide and Assistance Dogs?

Yes, we do. Please make yourself known to our Front of House team who will assist you. We are not able to allow dogs that are not either Guide Dogs or Assistance Dogs into our foyer area.

Is there disabled parking?

Blue Badge parking is accessed from The London Road, these are on a first come first serve basis. Please display your blue badge. Alternative additional disabled parking is available in the Quad Car Park.  Please see the Visit Page for maps to direct you.

What are the opening hours for your bar?

The bar opens 45 minutes before performances in the theatre and closes after the interval.

 Can I pre-order interval drinks?

You may pre-order interval drinks prior to a performance at the bar, these will be available for collection at the interval. CARD PAYMENTS ONLY.

What food & drink is available to purchase?

Customers can purchase wine, prosecco, beers, gin and tonic and soft drinks. Freshly ground coffee is available as well as tea.  Crisps, sweets and snacks can be purchased,  as well as a range of delicious Criterion ice creams at some performances. Please note the bar takes CARD PAYMENTS ONLY.

Do you have baby changing facilities?

Baby changing facilities can be found in the foyer disabled toilets.

Is there somewhere I can leave my bicycle?

We have designated bike stands located out the front of the building.

Booking Fees – Our Terms & Conditions

Booking fee of £1 is included in the ticket price. An additional £1 is payable if you would like your tickets posted.

Why do we charge a transaction fee?

Booking fees cover the cost of running the box office, bank charges, computer technology and tickets, ensuring that our customers enjoy the best possible customer service.

All tickets and booking fees are non-refundable.

Tickets can only be offered for re-sale when an event is sold out. A credit voucher will be issued and the booking fee retained by EM Forster Theatre.

To put tickets up for resale please contact the Box Office on 01732 304241.

If you have not paid for your tickets to be posted, please show your email confirmation to the Box Office to collect your tickets, at least 15 minutes before the start of the event, with your proof of concession (if applicable).

Or you can choose to Print at Home

In the event of a performance being cancelled ticket holders can book for an alternative performance of the same show (subject to availability) up to the seat value on the ticket. Alternatively, we can issue the ticket holder with a credit voucher for the value of the original tickets or a refund for the value of the original tickets.

Management reserves the right to refuse admission.

Latecomers may be admitted to the auditorium at a suitable break in performance.

Photography, video and sound recording, smoking, vaping and the use of mobile phones and pagers in the auditorium are strictly prohibited.

Smoking and vaping is not allowed anywhere on the school site.

Only refreshments bought in the cafe/bar are allowed in the auditorium and we request that you respect performers and other patrons when consuming refreshments during an event.

The event promoter may record or take photographs of performances. However, if it does so, customers will be informed before the performance.
